Menswear

Menswear

Over time, menswear (the category of apparel designated for men) has evolved similar to womenswear's ready-to-wear known as RTW (slop shops were stores where RTW was sold and were considered to not have carefully fitted clothing). RTW happened in mid-1820s, Industrial Revolution brought about mass production of clothing due to machines, rich don't buy off the rack until the later the 1800s, and financial crisis caused acceptance of RTW. Trends and spending in menswear increased due to RTW.

Men's clothing includes Outerwear (jackets, raincoats, etc.), Tailored items (suits, formal wear, sports coats, etc.), Furnishings (e.g., sweaters, undergarments, pajamas, socks, suspenders, neckwear, robes, etc.), Working clothes (work shirt and pants, overalls, etc.), and other (uniforms, etc.).
