Historic Events
• Excess, greed, yuppies (young urban professionals), status symbols, Wall Street were big in the 1980s.
• VCRS, TV, Apple computer, cassettes technology was popular during this time.

Corresponding Fashion Changes
• Power Dress (watch this Working Girl video to see this fashion), big shoulders, high top Reeboks, shiny gold fabrics were the fashion. Can you connect any of the historic events featured on the left that may have influenced some of these corresponding fashion changes? What event do you think impacted which fashion and why?
• Armani, Christian Lacroix, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld, Issey Miyake, Versace, Westwood (see below), Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Donna Karen, Liz Claiborne were major designers during this time.
