OER Work in Faculty Reviews
OER work can and should be counted in faculty reviews. The work faculty engage in adopting, adapting, and creating OER materials supports strong teaching practices, scholarship, and service work. This rubric has been designed by the Georgia Southern OER Working Team to provide guidance to faculty submitting OER work in their annual and tenure/promotion reviews. It has also been created to provide guidance to department heads and review committees responsible for evaluating the contributions faculty have made in regards to annual performance and/or tenure/promotion.
Other documents on this page also provide detail and examples of how faculty as well as review committees can count OER work, and provided the framework for this working team to design this rubric for use by Georgia Southern faculty.
- OER Faculty Work A Suggested Rubric for Reporting According to USG Categories This rubric is designed to assist university personnel as they develop annual reports or professional portfolios. Informed by the DOERS3 rubric, this matrix can help colleagues identify and justify their work related to the creation, development, review, promotion, adaptation and/or adoption of Open Educational Resources (OER) and/or Open Access (OA) publications. Colleagues should use this rubric as a guide. It is possible for a faculty member’s work to cross boundaries of their five-part responsibilities. It is also possible for OER/OA related work to be applicable to work areas not categorized below.
