AI Pause
his post explains why the team at Open Oregon Educational Resources thinks that generative AI (GenAI) is not ready for the biggest open education projects that we’re working on right now. We’re not offering policy here, but rather guidance for authors along with an explanation of why we’re taking a wait-and-see approach instead of continuing to experiment with the new tools.
Attribution 4AI
Transparency is more important than ever in our ever-changing world of generative artificial intelligence. The goal for Attribution 4 AI focuses on a simple but effective way to communicate HOW AI is used in creative projects to benefit the end users and viewers. To improve transparency, creators may add the images below to their creative works to help clarify how they leveraged AI in their creative process and whether the end product will be sold for profit.
ISKME’s Guiding Principles for Responsible AI in the World of “Open”
As a nonprofit organization working in the open education space, we have witnessed first-hand the frenetic pace of all things AI, particularly as they relate to education. While several members of our team have eagerly explored ways in which AI tools could be applied to their work, we felt the need to take a collective deep breath and intentionally consider how—as an organization dedicated to making learning and knowledge-sharing participatory, equitable, and open—we should apply our own organizational values to the ways in which we engage with AI.
Understanding CC Licenses and Generative AI
Many wonder what role CC licenses, and CC as an organization, can and should play in the future of generative AI. The legal and ethical uncertainty over using copyrighted inputs for training, the uncertainty over the legal status and best practices around works produced by generative AI, and the implications for this technology on the growth and sustainability of the open commons have led CC to examine these issues more closely. We want to address some common questions, while acknowledging that the answers may be complex or still unknown.
