Wonders of the World

The rock and mineral specimens in the physical exhibit (2nd Floor near Information Desk) were contributed by Debbie Emley, a Library Assistant in the CRS Department.  Debbie’s family was stationed in Bangor, Washington with the Navy during the time that Mt. St. Helen’s erupted.  They were able to visit the volcano afterwards and observed the destruction and rebuilding in the area around the mountain.  Their daughter, Jessica, became a junior exhibitor for a local rock club and the family attended numerous rock and mineral shows and participated in rock hunting excursions with the club.

Debbie recently cataloged a large collection of government materials called the U.S. Geological Survey Professional Papers.  Some of them are included in this exhibit.  Although they are older papers, they contain interesting information regarding the field of geology.  If you are interested in learning more about these papers, you may access them through our local catalog online. You can search by topic, area or browse the series. Ask for help at the Research Desk, or Ask a Librarian at http://library.georgiasouthern.edu/ask/ .
