The ARC: Automated Retrieval Collection

The Automated Retrieval Collection (ARC) or Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) is a high density shelving system with industrial cranes that get the books.  About half of the physical books owned by the Georgia Southern University Libraries are stored in the ARC!

When you search in the Catalog search on the Libraries homepage, and find a book in the ARC, you are able to log into GIL Find using your my.georgiasouthern.edu login, and request the book.  When you do this, the robot cranes retrieve the book and take it to a deck on the second floor of Henderson Library behind the checkout desk.  Libraries employees can then get the book from the deck and hold it at the desk for you.  The entire process takes just a few minutes, and you will get a confirmation email when the book is ready for pick up.  So you can order a book on your phone, then come pick it up in a few.

The 3rd floor of Henderson Library features a viewing area with windows overlooking the ARC cranes, so you can visit the library and see the cranes in action.
