Edwin Deloach was born in Brooklet, GA, on September 15, 1900. He is the son of parents Eli Warnell Deloach and Julia Eunice Deloach. He worked as a farmhand for his father until he joined the United States Marine Corps on September 17, 1919 as a mechanic as a part of the supply company. He had previously registered for Selective Service as a result of the war. In the Marine Corps, he worked on various vehicles on Parris Island.
Though his Marine Corps career was short, it was not without incident. On May 5,1920 he received an offense for creating a disturbance after hours in the soldiers quarters, he was reprimanded and placed on restrictions for 7 days. On July 9th, 1920, 8:00 p.m. he was involved in an accident which resulted in a bizarre injury. While putting a tire on a truck in the Marine Corps supply depot he was struck in the head by a tire that had fractured. The fragment of the tire fractured his skull. Following the accident, he was transported to the on-sight naval hospital where he was treated. Unfortunately he succumbed to his injury around 2:15 am, on July 10, 1920 in His remains were shipped back to Bulloch County, GA and his belongings sent back to his father, E.W. Deloach. He was buried in Red Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery after being returned home.
