Whose House? Building Names at Georgia Southern: Russell Union

About Fielding D. Russell

Fielding Russell was born in 1907 in Winder, Georgia. He is the child of Ina Dillard Russell and Richard Russell and was one of 15 children. His brother Richard B. Russell served in the U.S. Senate from 1933 to 1971. Fielding Russell worked as an English professor at Georgia Southern University from 1932 to 1975. He has also served as Dean of Men, the boxing coach, Chair of the English Department and the Department of Languages, as well as created the Campus Life Enrichment Comittee all during his Tenure.

Fielding Russell was beloved by faculty and students at Georgia Southern as well as the members of the First Presbyterian church where he was most active in. He was known to keep in contact with students who have graduated as well as host thanksgiving and christmas dinners for exchange students. He continued building up his reputation up until his death in 1993.

About Russell Union

Russell Union provides a multitude of services in event planning such as facility reservations, audio visual services, and event consultations. Russell Union has 7 different departments all designed to help with certain needs of students, one of which being the Dean of Students. There are many study spaces as well as spaces for students to congregated such as Starbucks, Chick-fil-a, and even meditation centers.
