To show the alignment of your course to the Core Area Learning Outcome, you should provide a precise description of the specific course content, knowledge, skills and/or dispositions that directly align with the area learning outcome. Check the current Core Curriculum listing to verify the core area for the course and review the corresponding Core Area Learning Outcome. Most courses use course SLOs as a starting point to show this alignment, however, it is not sufficient to simply list your course SLOs and assume the reader will be able to infer the alignment to the core area. Include some narrative that explains exactly how the course SLOs connect to the area learning outcome.
Tips for Alignment
Examples
For examples of core area alignment in Georgia Southern University core course assessment documents, please see the Core Course Assessment Document Handbook.
At Georgia Southern, the General Education and Core Curriculum (GECC) Committee reviews all academic program assessment documents on an annual basis. When reviewing course alignment with core curriculum, the committee uses the following rubric criteria to provide feedback to the program:
1 - BEGINNING | 2 - DEVELOPING | 3 - ACCEPTABLE | 4 - EXEMPLARY |
