Print vs. Online

  • In the Comparison Table you used in the Types of Periodicals assignment, the Scholarly Journals column mainly describes Research Articles.  However, there are several other kinds of articles that commonly appear in scholarly journals that you should be aware of:
  • Review Articles
  • News Articles
  • Book Reviews
  • Editorials or Letters to the Editor
  • In printed issues of Scholarly Journals, these various types of articles are bound together between two covers and tend to relate to a specific topic or field of study; in online databases, these articles are separated from each other so it isn't as easy to get a sense of the full range of items found in these publications.
