Scholarly Communications & Instruction Intern-Librarian

 

Georgia Southern University Libraries seek a graduate student intern with a strong interest in Scholarly Communications and Information Literacy Instruction in Higher Education. The successful candidate will work closely with the Scholarly Communications Librarian and will have the opportunity to participate in scholarly communications initiatives and programming such as:

  • Co-facilitating the  Metaliteracy: Scholarly Communications (MSC) badge track workshops (through synchronous Zoom meetings), including monitoring chat and taking attendance, and sending followup messages/slides to attendees
  • Assisting with creating new or updated content for the Scholarly Communications LibGuide [See:  https://georgiasouthern.libguides.com/scholcomm ] including Scholarly Communications Newsletter formatting
  • Creating Scholarly Communications and Library/IL Instruction-related digital learning materials

Required Skills:

  • Strong written communication skills
  • Experience with database searching
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize information and to write clearly and concisely
  • Experience creating documents for print and web publishing
  • Ability to work independently 
  • Meets requirements for internship program at their program of study (e.g. SJSU School of Information),
  • Meets requirements for internship with Georgia Southern University Libraries

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with content management systems, web design, and/or online teaching and learning tools
  • Proficiency with Springshare’s suite of tools, particularly LibGuides
  • Data visualization skills
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles.

 

Open Educational Resources & Instruction Intern-Librarian

Georgia Southern University Libraries seek a graduate student intern with a strong interest in Access, Affordability, Inclusive Excellence, and Sustainability issues in Higher Education. Intern will work closely with the Sustainability Librarian and will have the opportunity to co-develop strategies for advocacy, education, outreach, and engagement in multiple aspects of Open Education (OER, Open Pedagogy, Open Access). 

This work may include: 

  • developing outreach and training materials

  • co-teaching workshops 

  • developing and delivering a new workshop in some area of Open Education 

  • developing some form of digital learning objects

  • developing assessment tools for existing or new initiatives 

  • research on new additions/innovations to open education  

  • possibility for co-presenter status for conference presentation

  • possibility for co-authorship on publication

Individual responsibilities will be determined by strengths, previous experience, and interests. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Meets requirements for internship program at their program of study (e.g. SJSU School of Information),

  • Meets requirements for internship with Georgia Southern Libraries

  • Strong interest in inclusive excellence and sustainability in higher education

  • Strong English writing skills 

  • Proficiency in Google Workplace 

  • Ability to work collaboratively in remote/virtual setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Springshare Libguides

  • Proficiency in Canva, or similar graphic software
