Off-Campus Access to Library Resources

Overview

Due to copyright and licensing requirements, off-campus access to many of the University Libraries' resources is limited to Georgia Southern students, faculty, and staff. See below for specific guidance using the Libraries' electronic or print resources.

When using the libraries' resources from off campus, make sure that you are NOT connected to a Georgia Southern University VPN. Need additional help? Contact us!

Electronic Resources

To access the Libraries' electronic resources from an off-campus network, you may be prompted to log into the resource using either the MyGS Login form or the Libraries' EZProxy Login form. Please note, logging into the MyGeorgiaSouthern portal first does not log you into the Libraries' resources.

If the MyGS Login form appears, enter your MyGS username and password as you normally do and click Login. You will be redirected to the resource.

If the Libraries' EZProxy Login form appears, enter your MyGS username and password and click Login. Do not include "@georgiasouthern.edu" in the username field. You will be redirected to the resource.

If the Libraries' EZProxy Login form appears, enter you MyGS username and password, do not include the @georgiasouthern.edu . Then, click "Login".

When searching Discover @ Georgia Southern from off campus, be sure to click Click Here To Log In in the yellow bar that appears at the top of the screen when Discover first opens. Failure to log in may result in some links failing without the opportunity to log in later. You will be prompted to log in using the MyGS Login.

In some instances, if you attempt to access a library resource without navigating to it through the library website, the A-Z database list, or a course or subject guide, you may need to follow unique steps to access the resource. For more information about logging into specific databases and resources using OpenAthens, including ASME Digital Library, IEEE Xplore, and Wiley Online Library, see the Libraries' OpenAthens guide.

Print Resources

The Libraries offer a number of resources and services to help you access and use print and physical library resources from off-campus.

GIL Express

GIL Express is a service being offered at all libraries within the University System of Georgia (USG). The service is an innovative resource sharing initiative that allows students, faculty, and staff access to all eligible circulating material at all USG libraries. GIL Express is available to all eligible patrons through both an on-site (walk up) requesting service and a remote requesting service. If you are located near another USG library, you may have Georgia Southern materials delivered there. For more information, see the Libraries' GIL Express guide.
