Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery/GIL-Express: GIL Express

Information on the Resource Sharing Services available through Georgia Southern University Libraries

What is GIL Express?

GIL Express is the initiative of the University System of Georgia to allow faculty, staff, and students at any USG school to borrow eligible materials from any USG library. When you place a GIL Express request in the catalog, the library that owns the item will ship it to your home library, or any USG library you choose, for you to check it out. This system also allows you to return your items to any USG library.

GIL Express Tips for Success

GIL Express allows a generous 28 day checkout plus two renewals.   However, you must renew or return them before the due date or your account will be blocked.   In establishing the circulation policies, the University System decided not to charge fines.

Check your account or call  912-478-5647 (Henderson Library) or 912-344-3027 (Lane Library) to see if your book has arrived.

Instructions for using GIL Express

Search All University System of Georgia (USG) Collections
By default, the new GIL-Find searches the collections at Henderson Library (Statesboro) and Lane Library (Savannah) simultaneously.

Request Items from Other USG Campuses
Any time an item in your search results is available from another USG campus, GIL-Find will let you know. If you are unable to obtain a copy of an item from your home library, you may use the Request function to borrow it from another USG library, or have items delivered between Henderson and Lane libraries. GIL Express items usually arrive in 1 - 3 business days.

See which USG campuses own a copy of an item by clicking More Libraries on the Get It tab for the item. To request the item, be sure to sign into your library account first:

Once you have signed into your account, to request an item from another USG campus:

  1. Click More Libraries on the Get It tab for the item you want to request.
  2. From the Institutions list, select any USG library at which the item is available.
  3. Click Request.
  4. Select Georgia Southern University as your pickup institution.
  5. Complete the form and click Request.

How to I check the status of my GIL Express Request?

Check the progress of your requests through the My Account option available on either the Universal Catalog or the Henderson Library Catalog accessible via the library homepage. When My Account shows that the book has arrived at the library, ask for it at the Circulation Desk.
