The Battle of Brier Creek occurred during the American Revolutionary War on March 3, 1779, near Brier Creek in eastern Georgia and what is now known as Sylvania, Georgia, in Screven County. American forces under the command of General John Ashe fought against British forces led by Lieutenant Colonel Jacques Marcus (Mark) Prevost.
General Ashe had been tasked with defending Georgia from the British invasion. Unfortunately, his forces were poorly organized and undisciplined. Taking advantage of Ashe's weaknesses, Prevost launched a surprise attack on the American camp, catching the American forces off guard and quickly overwhelming them.
The battle resulted in a decisive victory for the British, with significant casualties on the American side. The British victory at Brier Creek contributed to their overall control of Georgia during the Revolutionary War and highlighted the importance of military discipline and strategy in the conflict.
