The Brier Creek Revolutionary War Battlefield Association's (BCRWBA) mission and commitment is to preserve, present, and interpret the history of the Battle of Brier Creek and its natural history and present this information through exhibits and educational programs. The BCRWBA works with the Sons of the American Revolution (SARS), the Daughters of the American Revolution (DARS), and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to educate the public through events and presentations.
The Educational Day at the Brier Creek Battlefield contains multiple stations designed to teach the public about the battle and specific themes of the Revolutionary War. The purpose of the Educational Day is to provide the public with an understanding of the battle, how to preserve the site, show the different weapons of the American Revolution, and display different Revolutionary War period artifacts, weapons, and clothes for the public to view. Multiple sessions are held throughout the day, and after each session, there is a demonstration and firing of muskets and artillery. The day after the Educational Day, members of SAR, DAR, BCRWBA, and the National Society Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.) host a Wreath Presentation at the Brier Creek Memorial site to honor the fallen soldiers at Brier Creek.
The central part of my project was to develop a digital walking map of the Battle of Brier Creek, which the Brier Creek Revolutionary War Battlefield Association will use to create a physical trail. By partnering with the BCRWA, this project will provide the groundwork for preserving and protecting Brier Creek with the help of the Georgia DNR. The proposed walking trail includes two different paths that stretch through the land. The trail will consist of wayside signage, which will contain the history of the battle while also highlighting the ecosystem around the battlefield. The trail is made up of 288 different coordinate waypoints and extends 3.87 miles throughout the land.
