Supported by a Carnegie Whitney Grant from the American Library Association.

Trustworthiness & Transparency

The library operates openly and makes decisions transparently to build trust with staff and patrons.

How can we create a transparent environment where we build trust across communities?

Ideas for Building Trust with Patrons

Provide safe spaces and make them inviting

Research suggests that libraries can build trust, self-reliance, and social capital by offering safe spaces that support learning and literacy.

Create a community of practice or learning group

This provides an opportunity for librarians and patrons (public, students, faculty etc.) to share knowledge about a topic of interest.
