GS Libraries provides access to image databases which are copyright cleared for educational purposes, however, they may not be used in public facing projects due to licence restrictions. Please ensure that you check the licensing conditions before re-use, and fully reference images.
This page includes Creative Commons licensed and public domain image sites that can be used in projects. While images from library databases listed on other pages of this guide can be used in student assignments and internal educational projects, they cannot be used in public facing projects due to license restrictions.
Below are some free to access image collections relating to cultural heritage and museum studies. Many of the images found in these collections are made available under creative commons licenses, which allows you to use the material in specific ways without seeking permission from the copyright holder.
Google Image search You can search for images that are free to use, share and modify through a Google Image Advanced Search.
REMEMBER It is important to be selective and to evaluate the information you find online. The CRAAP Test is a list of questions you can ask yourself in order to determine if the information on a web site is reliable. Domain types can also give insight into the type of website you are visiting.
