New Library Services Platform coming soon in Summer 2025: Information as of June 12, 2025

Overview information about software changes coming from the USG to Georgia Southern University Libraries in Summer 2025.

How Changes to the Library Service Platform Will Affect You

This summer, the University Libraries will upgrade to a new Library Services Platform (LSP) as part of a cost-saving initiative by the University System of Georgia (USG) and GALILEO. LSPs are next-generation library management systems that combine essential library functions into one seamless, customizable platform to improve institutional efficiency and enhance teaching and learning. This upgrade will bring changes to the GIL-Find catalog, Discover@Georgia Southern, and how the Libraries connect you to print and electronic resources.

As with any statewide migration of this magnitude, Georgia Southern students, faculty, and staff should expect some disruption of library resources and services as early as mid-July and lasting into the fall semester. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this important upgrade!

Here are some changes you can expect:

Course Reserves

Course reserves may not be available for checkout when the fall semester begins on August 13. To minimize any delay in availability, we encourage faculty to bring to the Libraries at your earliest convenience any reserve materials to be used early in the semester. More information about course reserves will be posted here as it becomes available.

Catalog

On or around July 16, the GIL-Find Catalog will be updated to a new homepage and search form similar in appearance to Discover @ Georgia Southern. The new GIL-Find Catalog introduces new ways of searching for and requesting resources from the Libraries as well as from other USG institutions via GIL Express. More information about the GIL-Find Catalog will be posted here as it becomes available.

Linking to Library Resources in Folio, Syllabuses, etc

Faculty may need to update links to the Libraries’ print and electronic resources in your Folio courses, syllabuses, and reading lists. Students may be unable to access these resources until these links are updated. We strongly encourage all faculty to test your links, preferably from off-campus, and notify your Library Liaison if any links are not working. Alternatively, faculty are welcome to submit any syllabuses or reading lists to your Liaison for us to review. We will review them and provide updated links as needed.

Book Renewals

The Libraries will no longer renew books automatically, including any books you currently have checked out. Please contact the Welcome Desk at either Henderson Library, Lane Library, or the Learning Commons during regular business hours to renew your books.

Henderson Library 912-478-5647
Lane Library 912-344-3027
Learning Commons 912-344-3011

How can I get help?

Thankfully, you need not remember all this information! Your first line of support is your liaison librarian who is ready to answer any questions.

Additionally, we will be integrating training on the new LSP into student and faculty orientations, in-person assistance at Henderson Library, Lane Library, and the Learning Commons, and within classes where we are providing instruction. To request instruction from a librarian, please use this form.

Again, the University Libraries appreciate your patience and understanding during this transition. We will update this guide as new information becomes available, and do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.
