New Library Services Platform coming soon in December 2025: Information as of October 21, 2025

Overview information about software changes coming from the USG to Georgia Southern University Libraries in 2025.

2025-10-21

The migration to a new library services platform that was scheduled for summer 2025 is now anticipated for December 16, 2025.

Here are some key dates and guidelines you need to know:

November 7, 2025:  New purchases freeze

From November 7, 2025 to December 17, 2025 new purchases of books will be on hold.  You can suggest a purchase during this time.  Your suggestion will be reviewed, and if a purchase is made, the item would be made available in late December at the earliest.

November 19, 2025:  GIL Express Borrowing Pause

Requesting, borrowing, and lending through GIL Express will be suspended on November 19. It is strongly encouraged to plan ahead and consider any materials you may need in advance of this deadline. While GIL Express is unavailable, Georgia Southern University faculty, staff and students should use Interlibrary Loan services. GIL Express services are expected to resume in 2026.

December 11 at 5:00 p.m. (tentative): On-site check out limited

During this time, software for book and equipment checkout will be unavailable.  The Libraries anticipate continuing to checkout books, but may suspend checkout of laptops and other technology items.

December 16: The Georgia Southern University Libraries Go-Live in the new Library Services Platform

While the dates and information listed above are confirmed, they are estimations. Details may change and may require adjustments. The Georgia Southern University Libraries will continue to communicate updates on the library's website and in The MidWeek Memo. We appreciate your patience and understanding as all of the campus libraries work to improve our services for a better user experience.
