Winter/Spring 2015

Emily as a Slice of Silver Tape by Darren C. Demaree

I’ve seen the other side.
There is no traction there.
There is only the emergence of Emily
sliding to threaten
the riverbed into a waterfall
& when we aged
to never, ever be motionless in water,
I thought this sort of thing
was what we were discussing.
I was wrong. We were talking
about a constant energy
& Emily is going to hold me to that,
even if I can no longer hear
where the water was entirely quiet
& I know that what can hold us
where the water disappears
has no color to it, only gravity.
