East/West & North/South Historical Comparison

Course Goal

To have students examine the various peoples and events of the world in a historical perspective using cardinal directions as a focus of study instead of the traditional nation-state. Students will compare and contrast these histories separated by these cardinal directions though the use of five categories (Agriculture & Economics, Military, Industrialization, Intellectual & Culture, and Politics & Government.) Utilizing this method of categorization will allow students to examine world history in terms that are researchable across the globe and comparing these categories solves the issue of focusing to heavily on one historical narrative. These comparisons will be made from the Western Europe, to East Asia, as well as Africa and South America. With this approach  and subject matter, the students of this class will receive a comprehensive world history course which not only provides improvements upon traditional world history classes but offers a exciting method for studying the history of the north, south, east, and west.
