Course Description and outcomes

Research, writing, or project development focused on a specific topic under the supervision of an Art History faculty member. Capstone projects are developed according to professional practices and standards in Art History, to provide advanced materials for future student success in their field. This may include: a written thesis, curating an exhibition, conference presentation, etc.

Outcomes: 

  1. Description & Analysis:  Analyze artwork and monuments of various eras and cultures by identifying and comparing key formal and stylistic components and by applying accurate terminology used in the field of art history. 

  2. Interpretation & Evaluation:  Interpret content and distinguish between artistic eras and/or cultural productions by analyzing and evaluating objects within their formal, expressive, and socio-cultural contexts.  

  3. Research & Communication:  Methodologically research and support critical analyses responsibly and effectively by synthesizing information, scholarly practice, and through proper documentation organized by formal writing style and format.

  4. Professional Practice: Express relevant skills and knowledge in methods of art historical research and professional ethics, and contribute to the professional knowledge base while producing original and professional scholarship.
