NOTE: when searching these terms you will turn up books about (scholarly interpretations) of memoirs, diaries etc. Weed those out as you evaluate the records retrieved.  Rather look for titles that are the original narrative, in full. You want to read the account of an individual who was an eye witness to some aspect of the War, not an interpretation or even compilation of several first-hand accounts.  Usually a careful look at the full record will give you this information. There maybe translators and editors listed under author, but the eyewitness should be listed in the author field as well.
