OERStudents: OER

Advocacy Guide for Students

Why it Matters

Why Should You Care?

OER help lower the overall cost of your education. OER are also adaptable, so your faculty have the ability to create materials designed specifically for the courses you are taking. This helps make those course materials more relevant, more up to date, and more engaging than traditional text books!

As a GS student, you have the power to truly make a difference for you and your friends! This guide provides easy steps on how you can help advocate for OER development and usage in your courses!

According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Open Educational Resources are "any type of educational materials that are in the public domain or introduced with an open license. The nature of these open materials means that anyone can legally and freely copy, use, adapt and re-share them. OERs range from textbooks to curricula, syllabi, lecture notes, assignments, tests, projects, audio, video and animation."
