Indicate the source you used with numbers, in italic and  in parentheses, for example:

The mineralization of TCE by a pure culture of a methane-oxidizing organism has been reported (6).

In this example, the reader would look up #6 in the reference list, example below,  for the complete reference/citation to the source.

Each source is numbered as it was used n the text, so this is the sixth source cited in this article. If a sources is cited again the same number is reused. So, if this source is cited again, later in the article the in-text reference number will also be 6.
